The Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks face off this Tuesday (12), at 9 pm (Brasília time), at TD Garden, in Boston, Massachusetts. The match is valid for the 2024-25 NBA regular season and the NBA Cup.
The Boston Celtics made another trade as
they rebuild their 2023-24 NBA
Championship roster. After sending Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers for Anfernee Simons, the Massachusetts franchise completed a three-way trade with the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets for Kristaps Porzingis. The Latvian center was sent to the Hawks, who also received a second-round pick. The Celtics received forward Georges Niang and a second-round pick. The Nets entered the trade, receiving shooting guard Terance Mann and the 22nd pick in the upcoming draft, which belonged to Atlanta, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
For the Boston Celtics, the trade is another move to clear the team's payroll, which is well above the NBA's allowance and, therefore, generating significant fines. Thus, they send Porzingis, who will receive $30 million this season, and receive Niang, who will receive only $8 million and is also on an expiring contract, as is Anfernee Simons, acquired last Monday. This way, between payroll and fine reductions, the franchise will save $180 million next season, while also creating flexibility for further trades and/or additional moves in free agency at the end of the next season.
